"Every song I have translated is well translated, the one who works on the very difficult songs with me is Dee Shipman. I know her telephone number by heart, and her fax. It goes back and forth - 'No! I don't like this word!' And she comes back and says 'Because you don't understand English!' So I have to convince her and she has to convince me, and the rapport is fantastic."

- Charles Aznavour

"Petula came over to my home, The Dower House , to do some more work on our musical "Zola": and when she arrived she said

"The Canadian Altzheimer Society wants me to record a song to be released to raise money for Altzheimer Awareness............ what should we write?"

Well I have to confess that we then went through at least an hour, sitting together at my piano, getting all the extremely dark humour ideas out of our systems, before we had a more thoughtful discussion about what it must be like to

a) have Altzheimer's, and
b) be caring for someone who has it.

We decided that the song should be from the point of view, the perceptual position, of one of these selflessly devoted caring partners........... and that's when the metaphor came to me

"like a ship without an anchor"

And two hours later we'd written it.

You'll Sail In The Sun
(Dee Shipman / Petula Clark)

You are like a ship without an anchor
Drifting on a deep uncharted sea
Looking for the harbour of a memory

Like a child who sometimes on a dark night
Falls into a bad dream unaware
When you wake
I値l promise you I値l be there

And I will take you home
I値l take you safely home
You are not alone
You have my love

And when tomorrow comes
Tomorrow always comes
You値l sail in the sun again my love

Though I know there痴 so much you致e forgotten
In our hearts the good things always last
And the future matters much more than the past

There is hope
A promise of tomorrow
It will calm the stormy seas once more
Hold my hand together we値l reach the shore

And I will take you home
I値l take you safely home
You are not alone
You have my love
And when tomorrow comes
Tomorrow always comes
You値l sail in the sun again my love
